Best Coffee Subscriptions

Affiliate disclosure: GrindTally may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. Prices are checked against the services’ own pages — see our methodology note at the bottom.

Coffee subscriptions sell two different things. Trade Coffee ($16–$26 per 12 oz bag) is a matching service — a taste quiz routes you to coffees from, per Trade, 400+ coffees across 50+ US roasters, roasted to order. Atlas Coffee Club ($14–$24 per 12 oz bag) is a discovery service — a rotating single origin each delivery, with a postcard from the country it came from. The per-ounce math puts Atlas at $1.17–$2.00/oz and Trade at $1.33–$2.17/oz, and a year of monthly bags runs $168–$288 (Atlas) to $192–$312 (Trade). A third model, Fellow Drops, sells limited coffees by text message at varying prices — included below with its variability stated, not smoothed over.

What a year actually costs (our calculation)

Subscriptions are monthly decisions disguised as one-time ones. At one 12 oz bag per month:

ServicePer-bag band12 bags / yearFlexibility (per service)
Atlas Coffee Club$14–$24$168–$288Monthly or bi-weekly delivery; whole bean or ground
Trade Coffee$16–$26$192–$312Flexible frequency; whole bean or ground; US shipping only (per Trade)

Shipping costs are not in these totals: Atlas’s shipping terms weren’t pulled at verification, and we don’t add figures we haven’t verified. Check the checkout page of either service for the delivered total before comparing against local roaster prices.

The picks, by buyer

Best for finding your taste — Trade Coffee ($16–$26/bag). The matching model is the product: a taste quiz, then bags drawn from 400+ coffees and 50+ roasters (Trade’s own figures), roasted to order. Whole bean or ground, flexible frequency, US shipping only per Trade’s help pages. Because the band depends on which coffees you match with, treat $16–$26 as the typical range, not a fixed price.

Best gift and discovery pick — Atlas Coffee Club ($14–$24/bag). A rotating single origin with a country postcard in every box — the discovery is the point, and the postcard is why this is the giftable one. 12 oz bags, whole bean or ground, monthly or bi-weekly. (Atlas’s affiliate terms were reported to us by third parties rather than verified in-network — that affects our commission, never your price, and we flag it here for transparency.)

Best for enthusiasts — Fellow Drops ($18–$30 typical, varies). Rotating limited coffees from guest roasters, ordered by replying to a text message. Bag size and price vary by drop — anyone quoting you a fixed Drops price is inventing it.

Not listed, on purpose: one specialty roaster on our radar (Onyx Coffee Lab) has a dataset row on hold — its record isn’t complete from the roaster’s own page yet, and we don’t write about coffees whose details we haven’t verified at the source. It joins this page when the record clears.

How we chose

Services are compared on their published model mechanics (matching vs discovery vs drops), bag size, and verified per-bag price bands — all from the services’ own pages, checked 2026-10-20. Per-ounce and yearly figures are our arithmetic on those bands, with shipping excluded and the exclusion stated. Roaster and coffee counts are the services’ own numbers, attributed. We publish no tasting notes we haven’t sourced from the roaster — and none at all for the held record.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best coffee subscription?

By model: Trade Coffee ($16–$26/bag) for personalized matching across 400+ coffees (per Trade), Atlas Coffee Club ($14–$24/bag) for rotating single-origin discovery and gifting. There is no model-free “best” — matching and discovery are different products.

How much does a coffee subscription cost per month?

For one 12 oz bag monthly: $14–$24 (Atlas) or $16–$26 (Trade), before any shipping. Yearly, that’s $168–$288 or $192–$312 by our calculation on the verified bands.

What is the cost per ounce of subscription coffee?

On 12 oz bags: Atlas works out to $1.17–$2.00/oz and Trade to $1.33–$2.17/oz (our arithmetic on the verified per-bag bands). Fellow Drops varies by drop and can’t be reduced to a fixed per-ounce figure.

Trade Coffee vs Atlas — what’s the real difference?

The model. Trade matches you to coffees via a taste quiz, drawing on 400+ coffees from 50+ roasters (per Trade). Atlas sends a rotating single origin with a country postcard. Matching optimizes for your taste; discovery optimizes for variety.

Are coffee subscriptions good gifts?

Atlas is the gift-shaped one in our dataset — a new origin and a postcard each delivery reads as an experience, and its band ($14–$24/bag) is the lower of the two fixed models. Trade suits a recipient whose taste you know well enough to seed the quiz.

Can I get ground coffee, or only whole bean?

Both Trade and Atlas offer whole bean or ground, per their own pages. Fellow Drops’ format varies by drop.

How flexible are delivery schedules?

Trade publishes flexible frequency; Atlas offers monthly or bi-weekly. Pause/cancel terms should be confirmed on each service’s own pages at signup — terms change, and we don’t republish them from memory.

Do these services ship internationally?

Trade publishes US shipping only (per its help pages). Atlas’s shipping detail wasn’t pulled at verification, so we don’t state it — check atlascoffeeclub.com before ordering from outside the US.

What is Fellow Drops?

Fellow’s text-message coffee program: rotating limited coffees from guest roasters, ordered by replying to a text. Bag size and price vary by drop — the $18–$30 band here is a typical range, flagged as such, not a price list.

Why isn’t Onyx Coffee Lab listed?

Its dataset record is on hold — incomplete from the roaster’s own page. We complete records from the source before publishing anything about a coffee, including tasting notes, which we would never invent.

Methodology

Model descriptions, bag sizes, and price bands come from the services’ own pages, verified 2026-10-20. Per-ounce and yearly-cost figures are our arithmetic on those bands; shipping is excluded and the exclusion is stated wherever the totals appear. Roaster/coffee counts are the services’ own published figures and are attributed. One roaster record (Onyx Coffee Lab) is excluded as an incomplete dataset row. GrindTally does not claim hands-on testing it hasn’t done, and publishes no tasting notes it hasn’t sourced.
